Commonly Asked Questions about Insurance
Copay
A copayment is the set amount you are responsible to pay for a health care service. Your "in-network" insurance company will be responsible for their contracted amount.
Deductible
A deductible is the amount you must pay for the health care service, before your "in-network" benefits take effect. In some cases, you may be responsible for a copayment once your deductible is met.
Contact the number on the back of your insurance card to find out your deductible amount. Does your plan include a separate mental health deductible from medical?
Coinsurance
A coinsurance is the percentage of health care costs you must pay once your insurance covers its share. Coinsurance typically goes into effect once the deductible has been met.
Insurance Adjustment
The difference between the total cost of medical services charged by a healthcare provider and what the insurance company has agreed to pay.
